A Robust Decentralized PSOLMI Controller Design for Load Frequency Control in Multi-Area Power Systems

-In this paper, a simple and robust proportional-integral (PI) controller has been proposed for load frequency control (LFC) in multi-area power systems. The proposed control design, called PSOLMI, benefits from the robust performance of the H∞ control, expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), and the optimization capabilities of the particle swarm optimization algorithms, simultaneously. Two simulation scenarios have been arranged to evaluate the ability of the proposed control design for LFC task. A comparison made between the PSOLMI and a full-order H∞ controller, demonstrated the superior performance of the proposed controller, despite its much simpler structure.
